Project report
Light that becomes part of architecture
The Etihad Arena on the banks of Yas Bay on Yas Island is one of Abu Dhabi's most striking venues. Designed by HOK, the multi-purpose arena offers up to 18,000 guests space for international concerts, sports events and corporate events. Its powerful building shell protects from intense sunlight during the day and transforms into a widely visible light object on the water after dark.
For this extraordinary project, alurays developed, supplied and mounted the façade lighting. Precisely coordinated lighting solutions stage the curved architecture, underline the depth and structure of the outer skin and give the building a dynamic, distinctive remote effect. The technical implementation combines design requirements, robustness and reliable operation under the climatic conditions of the Gulf region.
The client of alurays was Decolight LLC. The lighting planning was carried out by CD+M, as the general contractor BAM realized the project. In the interaction of all participants an impressive light identity was created, which established the arena as a nocturnal landmark of Yas Bay.
