Project report
Light that becomes part of architecture
With the new central bus station in Oberbayern, Weilheim received a distinctive, safe and barrier-free transport hub. The approximately 120-metre-long and eight-metre-wide glass roof spans five of the seven bus platforms and connects them weather-proof to track 1. Its luminous, approximately 65-cm-high translucent mineral-material banderoles characterize the elegant silhouette and make the ZOB visible from a distance. In the dark, the lettering "ZOB Weilheim" and the surrounding roof edge are impressive. Integrated linear LED luminaires at the same time ensure a bright, uniform illumination of the living areas and bus platform edges. Thus, the light supports daily orientation, safety and a pleasant atmosphere without overlaying the filigree architecture. Alurays provided the exterior lighting and developed object-specific LED components for this purpose. Thus, light becomes the connecting element between material, function and city space – and gives the bus station, opened in 2020, a distinctive presence at night.
